Flushing Meadows

Flushing Meadows Pool and Ice Facility: Site / Landscape

The Flushing Pool / Ice Rink is located in the northern portion of the former World’s Fair Site at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York. The new 110,000 sf building includes both Ice Rink and Pool facilities surrounded at each side by a different landscape. The integration of the new building and landscape, within the context of the existing park, was of
great importance.

The site was viewed as an extension of the building, within the overall context of the Park. The resulting design defines four outdoor rooms or spaces around the building that take their design cues from the surrounding landscapes, as well as being influenced by the strong design lines of the new building.
